In abandoning the one-eyed gaze of the camera, Barbara Probst explores the voyeurism of photography by dividing the single moment into multiple views, pulling and pushing the viewer in close, then far away, above, below and in oblique relation to the subject.

Using a radio-controlled release system she simultaneously triggers the shutters of several cameras pointed at the same scene from different angles and distances. The resulting sequence of images stretches out the split second suspending the subject often literally in mid-air. With no past or future tense, a narrative is nonetheless evoked in the classic close-up, medium and long shots of cinema.

Barbara Probst was born in Munich, Germany. She has had recent solo exhibitions at the Kunstverein Cuxhaven and Kunstverein Schwerte in Germany. This is her first solo show in the United States. Since 2000 she has lived in New York.
