Folklore IV (2009), commissioned by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, explores the history of the Jean Nouvel expansion to the Reina Sofia, relating this to the Spanish Pavillion at the 1937 world’s fair, the cooking and consumption of paella, and the life of Esquivias’ own father. This work in particular explores the idea of modern culture in Spain, as it has been constructed in the past and as it operates in the present.
