I–You–Later–There defines a mental and a physical space through the use of sound, light and an object: a floor construction (300x400cm) leaning against the wall. The sound track contains ambient domestic sounds (the shuffling of chairs, water poured into a cup, footsteps on a wooden floor) and a female narrator defining her movements and thoughts within her domestic space. Descriptions of daily activities become a way of mapping the space; “I walk to the table, I sit down, close my eyes…pause, ah…I like the light in the room ...I walk across the floor, the floor is painted grey, it is a wooden floor…it creaks … “.
The words and sentences are multiplied, looped and layered and each situation or feeling seems to be described from more then one viewpoint. The light is connected to the sound through a color-organ, a device through which the intensity of the light depends frequencies of the sound. In this way the light flickers on and off. The reflection of the light on the platform, moving in sync with the speaking voice, becomes the focus of attention allowing the visualization of both the imaginary and the real. The focus shifts from the aural perception to the physical experience of the actual exhibition room.
